LESSON 2: CHASSIS
Active Booster
Active Booster
Quick assist includes the following unique components:
•
New tandem dual-port stability assist master cylinder with pressure transducers.
•
Active brake booster with integral solenoid and a brake booster release switch
The main components of the active brake booster operate in the same way as any conventional brake booster.
What makes the active brake booster unique is that it can be activated by the stability assist module using the
active booster solenoid. This occurs when the assist module is correcting driver inputs to maintain stability or
when cold weather prevents the hydraulic control unit from quickly drawing brake fluid from the reservoir.
When the brake pedal is depressed, the release switch transmits signals to the module. The module then actuates
the brake booster by:
•
Applying current to the solenoid to open the air valve and create force.
•
Decreasing current to the solenoid to close the air valve and reduce output force.
•
The brake pedal is pulled forward as the master cylinder piston moves when the stability assist module is
activating the brake booster.
