Toothed belt pretensioning
7.3.1
Information
NOTICE
Expansion processes during transport and differences in temperature during storage cause warping
stretch the toothed belt. Tension on the toothed belt of the planar surface gantry has therefore been
released for transport and does not have the required tension on delivery.
Set the toothed belt pretensioning only in the following cases:
• During initial assembly immediately after alignment
• Once after commissioning after approx. 30 strokes at operating temperature
• After removing/installing or replacing the toothed belt
NOTICE
Incorrect toothed belt pretensioning has the following effects:
• Reduced service life of toothed belts, guides and ball bearings
• Influence on the operating behaviour of the planar surface gantry
• Deterioration of the positioning accuracy
• Skipping of the toothed belt
Results: positioning errors and danger of collision
The toothed belt pretensioning is determined by measuring the fundamental oscillation (natural
frequency) of the toothed belt with a defined and freely oscillating span length. The distance for the
span length is set with the accompanying belt tensioning setting piece. The toothed belt is started
oscillating by an impulse. The generated natural frequency of the toothed belt must be measured
within an acoustic frequency meter.
Only an acoustic frequency meter is appropriate for checking the toothed belt pretensioning.
•
Check the toothed belt pretensioning carefully.
•
Use appropriate test equipment.
•
Observe the frequency setpoint value of the toothed belt pretensioning.
•
Do not overstretch the toothed belt. Slowly approach the correct toothed belt pretensioning.
