Press the
Sensing Speed soft key. Figure 5-13 shows
that the speed will be set in the highlighted area. Use the
navigation keys to select digits. When finished, press
ENTER

Sensing Speed is the speed (inches or millimeters per
second)
at which the horn travels between the Start Sens-
ing Position and just before achieving the trigger point.
A typical starting value of Sensing Speed is 0.040 in/s
(1.0 mm/s). Sensing Speed can be set higher for shorter
cycle times, or lower for greater trigger force detection
accuracy.
Sensing Speed
A feature of the servo press teaches a Sensing Start Posi-
tion. This position can be programmed once the Sensing
Start Position (Figure 5-11) soft key is pressed. That
will be a choice when either force or power is the trigger
type.
The figure to the right illustrates the display that appears
after the soft key is pressed. In this case, because the
servo is outside its limits, the operator is prompted to
hold the operate switches so that the servo thruster can
move. Once it is moved, the Sensing Start Position can
be set.
Sensing Start Position is the actual position in the ma-
chine travel where the system begins to sense for the
trigger force to be achieved. As the horn approaches the
Sensing Start Position, the servo changes to the Sensing
Speed setting.

The figure to the right shows that with Force as the trig-
ger type, Trigger Force, Max Trigger Time, Sensing
Start Position, and Sensing Speed need to be pro-
grammed.

It is critical to program the Sensing Start Posi-
tion so that the horn is never in contact with
the part at this position, taking into account the
height variability of unwelded parts. Failure to
do so may result in equipment damage.
