Installation of Unit
Note: The lead shield parts are very soft and easily damaged by improper handling.
The following precautions should be followed to prevent deforming the lead
parts:
•
Always lift the lead parts from the larger (more substantial) areas, do not use
the smaller areas as "handles" to lift a heavy part.
•
Always set the lead parts on a flat surface that is free of any foreign object.
•
Always set the lead parts down very gently, as even a small "bump" may
deform a part such that it will not properly fit.
The lead shield consist of the following parts:
8 each
Flat Rings (Note that the rings have 3 annular projections on one side
and 3 annular recesses on the other. Also note that one quadrant is
flat.)
2 each
Top/Bottom Ring (Note the 45 degree bevel faces away from the
shield assembly)
1 each
Center Middle (Note the cutout for the sample changer slide.)
2 each
Left/Right Side (This part is symmetrical and the same part is used for
the left and right.)
1 each
Left Rear (Note the location of the large PMT clearance hole.)
1 each
Right Rear (Note the location of the large PMT clearance hole.)
Remove the PIPS Detector Mounting Assembly from the sample changer by removing
the two 6 - 32 x 3/8 in. screws and lock washers that secure the detector assembly to the
sample changer rails, then carefully slide the PIPS Detector Mounting Assembly off of
the rails.
Do not
use the PMT assembly projecting from the PIPS Detector Mounting
Assembly as a handle.
Mount the lead shield assembly to the unit by following the steps below:
