The selected site should offer a typical counting lab environment with controlled
temperature and humidity; refer to
Specifications
starting on page 143. The area should
be free of dust and other airborne contaminants (Radon gas, etc.). The site should not
expose the system to excessive vibrations from heavy equipment or machinery.
AC Power Source
The system requires an ac power source of 100-240 Vac at 50-60 Hz; refer to the
appendix
Specifications
starting on page 143. The power source must be
clean
from
electrical noise typical of large motors and heavy machinery. Excessive electrical
noise, either conducted or radiated, will increase the system background levels. The
system must be connected to a properly grounded outlet to avoid the possibility of
electrical shock.
Preparation
Move the shipping crates into the area where the system is to be installed. The lead
shield assembly weighs approximately 320 kg (700 lb); therefore, proper precautions
should be taken whenever moving the lead shield to avoid personal injury.
While wearing safety glasses and standing to the side of the shipping crates (to prevent
being hit by the bands as they are cut), cut the shipping banding around the crates (as
shown in Figure 34) with the diagonal cutters.
