The side can also be selected directly on the
headphones, see Headphone operating in‐
structions.
Enabling rear
Priorities
A priority can be defined for the following cir‐
cumstances:
▷ The sound output in the rear is via head‐
phones, the entertainment source is the
same as was selected at the front for the
vehicle loudspeakers. The priority defines
who is allowed to make possible adjust‐
ments to the entertainment source.
▷ The sound output in the rear is via loud‐
speakers. The priority defines by whom the
entertainment source for the vehicle loud‐
speakers may be selected, and who is al‐
lowed to make possible adjustnments.
This setting is only possible using the iDrive at
the front.

3. Select the desired priority.
▷ "Driver has priority"
If the same entertainment source is se‐
lected at the front and rear, no settings
can be made to this source from the
rear. For example, if the radio is being
listened to in the front and rear, a sta‐
tion change is only possible in the
front.
The entertainment source selected at
the front is output via the vehicle loud‐
speakers.
It is not possible to access the
following functions in the rear when
this setting is selected:
▷ "Contacts" or "Office"
▷ "BMW Services" or
"ConnectedDrive"
▷ "Equal priority"
If the same entertainment source is se‐
lected at the front and rear, adjust‐
ments can be made to this source at
the front and from the rear.
If the sound output at the rear is via
loudspeakers, the entertainment
source for the vehicle loudspeakers
can also be changed from the rear. The
most recently selected entertainment
source is output via the vehicle loud‐
speakers.
▷ "Rear has priority"
If the same entertainment source is se‐
lected at the front and rear, no adjust‐
ments can be made to this source from
the front. For example, if the radio is
being listened to in the front and rear,
changing the station is only possible
from the rear.
If the sound output at the rear is via
loudspeakers, the entertainment
source for the vehicle loudspeakers
can only be changed from the rear. An‐
other sound source for the vehicle
loudspeakers can only be selected at
the front if the rear sound output is via
headphones.
