Troubleshooting
NOTE: If you are comparing prints from a proof printer, ensure
that the same PDL file was used to make the prints on both
printers.
Troubleshooting an inoperable system
• Problem: The system is inoperable due to a software, job, or
operator error.
If the screen is locked up, perform the following steps:
1. Open a Terminal window.
2. Enter the following commands:
ps –ae | grep xlock
kill <process id#>
3. If you cannot log in from another system, hold down the
<Stop> key while pressing <A> to reboot. At the OK
prompt, enter
sync
, then enter
boot
.
NOTE: Always assign a password to the “xrxusr” before
selecting the Lock Screen.
NOTE: If the above procedure does not work, power off the
controller. Wait one minute, then power on the controller.
CAUTION
Pressing <Stop> + <A> may result in lost information if a job is
currently being received by the system. You may need to resend
some jobs.
• Problem: The controller does not come up in the
OpenWindows environment.
1. Record any visible messages on the screen.
2. Contact the customer support center.
Troubleshooting job flow problems
When a job is submitted to the printer but does not print, follow
these procedures.
• Problem: A job is at the Novell server and does not reach
the print queue.
