11. CHECKING THE LEAK RATE

Measuring the leak rate using a concentration meter
- A concentration meter can be used to determine whether the WEH
®
Product is leak
tight. Please observe these following instructions when using such a device for leak
testing:
Î
Use a gas detector for flammable gases for this purpose.
Î
Prior to inspection, it is essential to flush the following ar-
eas of the WEH
®
Product with compressed air or nitrogen
(
):
- Entire product from outside
- Interior of the guide bush (Pos. 1)
Î
Make sure that you maintain a distance of 10–15 cm from
the components of the WEH
®
Product .
- If the measured leak rate exceeds 1,000 ppm, dismantle the WEH
®
Product and send
it to WEH for maintenance.
- Gas detectors are not suitable for measuring a technical leak rate due to technical
requirements. Therefore, a gas detector can only be used as an indicator. The limit
value of 1,000 ppm should therefore be regarded as a guideline and not as an absolute
limit.
- Having to send the WEH
®
Product to WEH for inspection does not automatically
mean that the WEH
®
Product is leaking or defective. The exact rate and relevance of a
leak can only be determined by carrying out measurements using the appropriate
instruments.
Î
Check the WEH
®
Product for leakage using operating medium under operating
pressure. The necessary prescribed safety measures must be observed.
- Please observe the following instructions if you are using our WEH
®
Product at a site
with a fueling station for liquid fuels:
Î
First determine the background value of the fueling station at a distance of one
metre from the WEH
®
Product.
Î
Subtract the measured background value from the measured actual value on the
WEH
®
Product.
Î
Follow the procedure described above if the resulting value still/actually exceeds
1,000 ppm.
