Emergency operation of WECS2000
There are two functions in WECS supporting emergency opera-
tion:
·
The blackout start function is used for automatically starting
the engine after a blackout within the specified time delay.
·
The shutdown override function is used to exclude engine
shutdowns during critical operation of the vessel.
23.9.1 Blackout start OS748
Blackout start is an emergency function in WECS that allows
engine starting without prelubrication pressure.
The blackout start input in connector X6
See installation specific electrical drawings.
Note!
Normally the prelubrication pump should be supplied from the
emergency generator thus allowing normal start of the engine
in case of blackout.
WECS 2000 has a blackout start input that can be activated by
the external control system within 5 minutes of lost pre-lubrica-
tion pressure or blackout. After 5 minutes the blackout start input
is inhibited.
The engine needs to be in
Ready for start
mode or
Start
blocking
mode and
no shutdowns should be active
before
the blackout start is initiated. If the engine has been in Ready for
start mode before the blackout it will go to Start blocking mode
when pre-lubrication pressure disappears.
When activating the blackout start input the start output to the
RM (Relay Module) is activated directly. The start block checking
and slow turning (option) sequences in the MCU (Main Control
Unit) are by-passed.
Within the specified time there will be a sufficient oil-film present
on the bearing surfaces allowing starting without damage.
