The EC Directive 80/1268/EEC as last
amended by 1999/100/EC applies to
measurement of the fuel consumption of
vehic les.
Fuel consumption was prev iously giv en for
urban traffic , and constant speed s of 56
mph (90 km/h) and 120 mph (75 k m/h). The
new standard is b ased on the emission
drive cycles to determine CO
2
em ission and
fuel consum ption.
Urban driving is assum ed to make up
around 1/3 of the overall consump tion
figure and extra-urba n driving around 2/3.
Cold starting and a cceleration p hases a re
additionally tak en into account. The new
figures are consequently higher than the
old ones.
The new reg ulation also requires the CO
2
emission level to be sta ted.
The figure given must not be taken as a
guarantee for the actua l fuel consumption
of the v ehicle.
Discrepancies b etween actual fuel
consump tion and the figures given can
result from driving style, road and traffic
conditions or the cond ition of the vehicle.
