TOW VEHICLE AND TOW VEHICLE HITCH
REQUIREMENTS
Before attaching the top dresser to the tow vehicle,
assure that the tow vehicle is properly equipped to
tow and control the weight of a fully loaded 1540 EC
top dresser. The tow vehicle must have enough towing
capacity to tow 1,437 Kg (3,169 pounds) Tow vehicle
must also have adequate and functional brakes.
Before attaching the top dresser to the tow vehicle,
assure that the tow vehicle has an appropriate hitch. The
1540 EC is equipped with a hitch that requires the use
of a 16 mm” (5/8”) pin. Units equipped with the optional
5th wheel hitch require a 2” ball. The 1540 EC and its
spinner assembly must set level when hitched to the tow
vehicle. When properly loaded, the 1540 EC can have a
tongue weight of 126 Kg (277 pounds). Heavy duty hitch
components are strongly recommended.

The Tow Vehicle Must Be Equipped With An

Capacity, and Have Adequate Functional Brakes
To Carry and Control a Loaded Weight of 1,437
Kg. (3,169 Pounds) With a Tongue Weight of
126 Kg. (277 Pounds).
Before attaching the top dresser to the tow vehicle,
inspect the hitch on the top dresser and on the tow
vehicle. Inspect for damage, wear, and missing parts.
Do not tow the top dresser with a damaged or defective
hitch. Refer any needed repairs to the proper service
personnel before installation.

Do not tow or operate the 1540 EC on side slopes over
15° degrees. Do not tow or operate the 1540 EC up or
down slopes over 15° degrees. Do not tow with an over
filled or overloaded hopper. Tipping or rolling over of the
machine can occur.

1540 EC OPERATOR POSITION
The proper location for the 1540 EC operator is seated at
the tow vehicle drivers seat. Always stop the tow vehicles
engine, set the tow vehicle brakes, and disengage the
power to the conveyor belt and the spinner assembly
before leaving the tow vehicle’s seat. Do not stand
behind the 1540 EC when it is operating.

PRE–OPERATION CHECK LIST
● Check Temperature -
Do not start the engine
on the 1540 EC top dresser if the hydraulic
fluid temperature is less than -7° Celsius (29°
Fahrenheit). Do not operate the 1540 EC if the air
temperature is above 29° C (85° F). Fluid may over
heat causing poor performance.
● Check -
Level of hydraulic fluid in reservoir tank
using the dipstick. Correct level to full if needed.
● Check -
Level of oil in engine crankcase. Correct
level to full if needed.
● Check -
All guards and deflectors are in place.
● Check -
The electronic control box is secure at the
tow vehicles operator position. DO NOT put the box
in the hopper.
