Hydraulic System
(See Figure 19)
DANGER
TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY,
Never Service Any Part of the Hydraulic
System With the Engine and Pump
Operating. High Hydraulic Pressure
and High Oil Temperatures Can Cause
Serious Injury Or Death.
Do Not Use Your Fingers or Hands To Check For
Hydraulic Leaks. High Pressure Can Puncture The
Skin and Force Oil Into the Body. This Can Cause
Severe Injury or Death.
Be Aware of High Hydraulic Oil Temperatures.
Serious Burns and Injuries Are Possible.
INSPECTING HYDRAULIC HOSES AND FITTINGS
Do not attempt to inspect the hydraulic hoses with the
engine running, the spinner motors operating, or the
conveyor drive motor operating.
Check the condition of the hydraulic hoses. The hoses
have a protective covering to control leakage in the
event of a hose breaking. Leaks and worn hoses should
be fixed or replaced before the machine is put into
service. The hydraulic system has pipe thread fittings
on some of the components. If disassembled, reseal
the pipe thread fitting with Teflon
®
tape or pipe dope.

HYDRAULIC FLUID
The hydraulic system uses ISO 68
(Mobil DTE-26
®
or equivalent) hydraulic
fluid. The fluid reservoir holds 34 liters
(9 gallons). Fluid level can be checked
by using the dipstick that is attached
to the filler cap. Do not operate the 1540 EC if the
hydraulic fluid temperature is under -7° Celsius (20°
F). The viscosity of the fluid will be too thick to flow
properly to the pump. Damage to the pump will occur.
Do not operate the 1540 EC if the air temperature is
above 29° C (85° F). Fluid may over heat causing poor
performance.
WARNING
CAUTION
TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUMP,
Do Not Start the 1540 EC Engine If the Hydraulic
Fluid Temperature Is Under -7 C (20 F).
If operation is needed at temperatures over 29° Celsius
(85° F), the entire hydraulic system of the should be
drained and the hydraulic fluid replaced with ISO 100
(Mobil DTE-27
®
or equivalent). The ISO 100 will provide
an operational range of 10° Celsius (50° F) up to 43°
Celsius (110° F).
Refer to the “Hydraulic Fluid and Filter Service Schedule
Table” for total fluid replacement schedules.
HYDRAULIC FLUID FILTER ASSEMBLY AND FILTER
CANISTER REPLACEMENT
The hydraulic fluid filter assembly is located on the
right side of the top dresser, under the frame. The filter
canister is a 10 micron “absolute” replaceable spin-on
type.
Refer to the “Hydraulic Fluid and Hydraulic Filter
Service Schedule” table for filter replacement schedule
times. Order Turfco part number 661572. Be sure to
replace the filter with an “absolute” 10 micron filter. An
“absolute” filter removes up to 98% of the 10 micron
or larger particles, while a 10 micron “nominal” filter
removes only 17% of 10 micron or larger particles.
