DESCRIPTION

Battery Box:

The battery box is located on the right

front corner of the 1540 EC frame. The box holds a 12

volt DC group U1A battery (customer supplied).

Hopper:

The hopper holds 0.6 cubic meters (21 cubic

feet) of top dressing material. The maximum allowable

weight of the top dressing material is 907 Kg (2000

Pounds).

Conveyor Belt:

The rough surfaced belt carries the

top  dressing  material  from  the  hopper,  through  the

metering gate, and on to the spinner wheels. Power

to  the  belt  is  provided  by  the  hydraulic  conveyor

belt  drive  motor. The  speed  of  the  conveyor  belt  is

adjustable.

Conveyor  Belt  Tension Adjusters:

  Tension  of  the

conveyor  belt  is  adjustable  and  can  be  changed  to

correct  tracking  or  slipping  problems.  Refer  to  the

Service  section  in  this  manual  for  more  information

about conveyor belt tension.

Hydraulic Fluid Reservoir:

 The hydraulic reservoir

holds 34 liter (9 gallons)  of ISO 68 (Mobil DTE-26

®

or equivalent) hydraulic fluid. The fluid level can be

checked by using the dipstick that is attached to the

inside of the filler cap. Always keep the fluid level at

full.  Drain  plugs  are  located  under  the  tank  on  the

bottom surface.

Spinner Assembly:

 The spinner assembly broadcasts

the  flow  of  top  dressing  material  being  discharged

from  the  conveyor  belt.  The  spinner  assembly  is

equipped with a spread diverter to control the spread

pattern  during  Heavyspread  operations  and  is  also

equipped with a tilt control to further enhance or vary

the  spreading  pattern.  The  spinner  assembly  can

also  be  removed  to  allow  the  1540  EC  to  be  used

as a material handler for top dressing or to install the

optional cross conveyor.

Left  and  Right  Hand  Spinner  Wheels:

The

hydraulically  powered  spinner  wheels  are  rotating

wheels  equipped  with  vanes.  The  rotating  motion

of the wheels broadcasts the top dressing material.

The  mounting  angle  of  the  vanes  on  the  wheels  is

adjustable  and  provides  adjustment/correction  to

spread  patterns.  Vane  adjustment  is  required  when

changing  between  Lightspread  and  a  very  heavy

Heavyspread.  The  speed  of  the  spinner  wheels  is

adjustable.

CAN  Receiver:

The  CAN  receiver  handles  and

stores  the  programming  and  setting  information

for  the  electronic  control  box. The  receiver  has  two

small  indicator  lights,  one  green  light  that  indicates

normal operating status and one red light that indicates

operating errors.

LOCATION AND  DESCRIPTION  OF  THE  WIDE

SPIN

1540 EC OPERATOR POSITION

Operator Position:

The proper location for the operator

of the 1540 EC Top Dresser is seated in the tow vehicles

seat. Always stop the tow vehicles engine and lock the

brakes before leaving the operator’s seat. Do not stand

behind or allow anyone to stand behind the 1540 EC top

dresser when the spinner attachment is operating.

TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY,

Move To the Operator’s Position At The Tow Vehicle

Before Engaging the Spinner Assembly.

LOCATION AND  DESCRIPTION  OF  THE  WIDE

SPIN

1540 EC ENGINE AND OPERATOR CONTROLS

(See Figures 13 and Figure 14)

Engine Controls:

The engine controls are located on

the engine. The engine is equipped with a throttle, choke,

keyed ON/OFF ignition/starter switch and a fuel shutoff

switch. An automatic throttle control is programmed into

the  electronic  control  box  and  will  automatically  raise

or  lower  the  engine  speed  as  the  ON/OFF  switch  is

activated.

Electronic  Control  Box:

  The  electronic  control  box

controls  the  ON/OFF  functions  and  speeds  of  the

spinners, the conveyor belt and the engine throttle. The

box has a display that shows spinner and conveyor belt

speeds.  The  display  also  shows  the  operator  chosen

preset speeds and system performance information.
When not in use, the control box hangs on the front of

the frame. DO NOT put the box in the hopper.

Always be at the operator’s position before engaging

the control box switches.

The control box switches are -

The  ON/OFF  Switch:

  controls  the  ON/OFF  operation

of the conveyor belt, the spinner assembly and engine

throttle. The switch has 3 positions:

I. Spinners OFF, Conveyor Belt OFF.

II. Spinners ON, Conveyor Belt OFF

III. Spinners ON, Conveyor Belt ON
