What is this thing and what exactly does it do again?
The 9sg is a great companion to the Omnia.9 audio processor (or any other existing
audio processor, for that matter) where you need to “split” the main audio
processing from the final limiter/clipper and stereo generator section. This would
include cases where you want to use a single audio processor at the studios to feed
multiple remote sites, while still maintaining the highest quality audio possible with
minimum loss of loudness. In short, it’s the same excellent stereo generator that we
included in Omnia.9 (and a bunch of the other cool tools) with a final clipper section
that improves upon the already excellent one in Omnia.9. We didn’t even think that
was possible.
I don’t have an Omnia.9—Can 9sg still benefit me?
ABSOLUTELY! ANY audio processor could potentially benefit from the improved
final clipper included with 9sg. With Omnia.9 you would feed the “Pre-Final” patch
point (pre-final limiter/clipper) into 9sg. This patchpoint is the ideal location for
feeding the pre-emphasis and clipper in 9sg. With other audio processors you could
still use an “HD” or “Digital” output (adjusted for little or no final limiting) and
achieve a good end result. You could also use other outputs such as an FM output
with no pre-emphasis (again, adjusted for minimum limiting/clipping) though the
15 kHz low-pass filtering typically present on such an output would result in less
than ideal results since 9sg actually does its low-pass filtering at 16.5 kHz by default,
resulting in better high-frequency response.
What about RDS?
Yup. 9sg has an integrated RDS generator which can be enabled in the field via an
optional license key if not purchased with the unit. This RDS generator supports
UECP and dynamic RDS, as well as full control and updates from external
automation systems via the 9sg http interface.
What else have I won, Bob?
Congratulations! Your new 9sg also includes full remote control and MPX analysis
via NfRemote from anywhere you have an Internet connection! Monitor your entire
MPX signal (or your competitor’s with an external tuner) via the integrated test
instrumentation (FFT, modulation analysis, loudness metering, oscilloscope, RTA).
Not only can you LOOK at signals, you can also HEAR them via remote Client Audio!
