RDS Station ID Menu
This menu provides fields for entering Program Service (PS) and Radio Text (RT)
information as well as the Program Information (PI) Code.
•
Normally the “PS” field is used as an 8-character static display and contains the
station’s call letters, but it is possible to program it to provide additional
information such as title and artist, or station slogan. This field can optionally be
updated dynamically by an automation system via the http interface or UECP.
•
By splitting text with the “/” symbol, each text block will alternate for 3 seconds
– for example, “WOMN-FM/88.5 FM/CLASSIC/ROCK”.
•
To change the amount of time each text block is displayed, enter the desired time
in from of the text in seconds – for example, “1.5sWOMN-FM/1.5s88.5
FM/1.0sCLASSIC/1.0sROCK”.
•
The “RT” field provides space for a 64-character free-form message that many
radios will display in addition to the PS field, either automatically or on demand.
Like the PS, it can be a static field (to provide a station slogan for instance) or
dynamic (to provide song title and artist information). Dynamic updating is
accomplished through the http automation interface or UECP. This field will be
greyed out unless “RadioText” is enabled in the “Flags” menu described later in
this chapter.
•
The “PI Code” field is a hexadecimal number that normally corresponds to your
station’s call letters. A handy PI code translator can be found at
http://www.w9wi.com/articles/rdsreverse.htm
. Remember to use the
HEXADECIMAL result.
