RPSB 1800/1802 Installation Guide

The
Rear Projection
SMART Board 1800/1802
The
Rear Projection
SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard housed in a cabinet unit. This
cabinet contains a mirror system that directs the image cast by your projector from your
computer or VCR onto the SMART Board screen from inside the unit.
The touch-sensitive screen of the RPSB enables you to do everything you can do at a
computer workstation
−
open files, conference with others, create new or edit existing
documents, explore the Internet, play video clips, etc.
−
simply by touching the SMART Board.
You can also write over any application in electronic ink using a SMART Pen Tray
stylus or
your finger, and then save your annotations to a SMART Notebook
or SMART Meeting Pro
file for future reference and distribution.
The
Rear Projection
SMART Board 1800 and 1802
Both the RPSB 1800 and 1802 cabinets are very secure units; once all internal components
have been installed and connected, the back of the cabinet can be completely enclosed (in
most cases). In addition to the SMART Board itself, the units come with two built-in 15-watt
speakers and a sliding, pull-out SMART Pen Tray shelf. This shelf holds a Pen Tray (including
four styluses and an eraser), with additional room for a wireless keyboard (Windows only) and
a projector remote control (not included). You must supply a LCD, CRT or DLP projector, with
a recommended brightness of 600 to 1000+ ANSI lumens (minimum 450 lumens).
The RPSB 1802 also offers the additional feature of guest laptop (computer 2) support. Place
a guest laptop on the cabinet's flip-up side shelf, and then plug the audio, video and serial
cables provided underneath the shelf into the laptop's appropriate ports. An internal switch
called the SMART X-Port
10 automatically overrides the internal connections, changing over
the video, audio and serial inputs from the internal computer (computer 1) to the guest laptop
(computer 2). The data in the guest laptop is then displayed on the RPSB screen, and, if the
SMART Board software is installed on that computer, it can be controlled by touching the
Board.
The RPSB 1802 offers the additional feature of a Display Source Switch (located beside the
Volume Control knob) which lets you toggle the projection display between the computer 1
and computer 2. This is especially handy if the computer 2 user wants to access the software
or network resources of computer 1 temporarily, and then switch back to computer 2.
Supplied Software
Your
Rear Projection
SMART Board comes with two software programs
the SMART Board
driver and SMART Notebook.
The SMART Board driver activates your
Rear Projection
SMART Board, allowing you to use
your finger as a mouse, annotate over an application with electronic ink and use Board-aware
applications.
SMART Notebook allows you to create, organize and save notes on either a
Rear Projection
SMART Board or at your workstation. For more information about how to use either the
SMART Board driver or SMART Notebook software, see the
SMART Board User’s Guide
or
the extensive online Help facilities supplied with each program. For information on installing
these programs, turn to
Completing the Installation
on page 39 of this guide.
NOTE
SMART Board is the
name of both the
whiteboard
component of the
RPSB and the
software that makes it
run. This manual will
refer to the software
as the SMART Board
driver and to the
hardware simply as
the SMART Board.
