System description
The WBT Mini is a compact version of the highly efficient Wideband Transceiver (WBT)
used by marine research vessels all around the world. Its compact size and energy-efficient
design makes it perfect for installation on a wide range of platforms.
The transceiver electronics in the WBT Mini
have the linear FM (chirp) and CW pulse
forms similar to the Wideband Transceiver.
It contains four individual transceiver channels
with multiplexing functionality. This allows
for great flexibility when you set up a system
with various split-beam or single-beam
transducer configurations.
The WBT Mini is contained in a splash-proof
cabinet. The robust design allows long-term deployment in challenging environments. The
WBT Mini can be operated in two different modes;
EK80 mode or Autonomous mode.
EK80 mode
In EK80 mode, the WBT Mini is used with a computer running the EK80 echo sounder
software. The EK80 software provides full real-time control of the WBT Mini using the
Ethernet interface. When used in
EK80 mode, the RAW echo sounder data are recorded
directly to the computer disk(s).
This mode requires one or more EK80 software licenses.
Autonomous mode
In
Autonomous
mode, the WBT Mini is programmed to perform a predefined mission. A
mission will normally record data over a period of time using specific acoustic settings.
The mission plan is designed using the EK Mission Planner program, and downloaded to
the WBT Mini before the mission starts.
The high-resolution RAW data are stored internally on a high-capacity USB flash drive
and retrieved after the mission is completed.
The Autonomous mode is an option that can be purchased separately.
The internal storage capacity depends on your operational settings. With a 70 kHz transducer
operating at CW and collecting data at 100 m range, the disk can store approximately
9,000,000 pings.
