PEERLESS (GEAR DRIVE) MODELS
General
Removal of the Peerless transmission is accomplished
by removing the drive belt from the input pulley, discon-
necting the transmission control and brake linkages, and
removing the transmission mounting capscrews.
Installation is the reverse of this process.
Carrier and Transmission Removal -
Peerless Models
DROP THE CARRIER AND
TRANSMISSION OUT OF FRAME
1. Block the front wheels and elevate the rear end. See
ELEVATING REAR END FOR SAFE SERVICE,
Section 6. Support the frame with jackstands and the
transmission with a hydraulic floor jack (see Figures 4
and 5).
2. Remove the rear wheels (see REAR WHEEL
INSTALLATION & REMOVAL, Section 6).
3. Disconnect the wire harness from the neutral safety
switch (C, Figure 19).
4. Engage the parking brake to slacken the drive belt.
5. Remove the drive belt (A, Figure 19) from the trans-
mission input pulley (B).
6. Disengage the parking brake.
7. Remove the cotter pin and washer (A, Figure 20)
connecting the rear brake rod (B) to the transmission
brake lever. Disconnect the brake rod and brake
lever.
