9. Unplug the wiring harness from the PTO clutch (A,
Figure 13).
10. Remove the capscrew (D, Figure 13) and remove the
PTO clutch (A).
11. Remove and replace the drive belt.
Belt Installation -
Peerless (Gear Drive) Models
NOTE: Remove the PTO clutch and disconnect the
upper shift link from the bell crank if not already done.
1. Park the tractor on a level surface. Disengage the
PTO, turn off the engine and set the parking brake.
Remove the key.
2. Remove the mower deck from the tractor. See
MOWER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, Section 6.
3. Elevate the front of the tractor (see ELEVATING THE
FRONT END FOR SAFE SERVICE, Section 6).
4. Engage the parking brake.
5. Install the new drive belt on the engine pulley (A,
Figure 14) see Figure 14 for belt routing.
6. Reinstall the PTO clutch (A, Figure13). Torque the
capscrew (D) to 50 ft. lbs. Reconnect the PTO clutch
wire harness.
7. Route the belt through the idler pulleys, though the
frame, and onto the transmission input pulley as
shown in Figure 14.
8. Reconnect the steering arm (C, Figure 10) to the
drag link (A) using the original hardware.
9. Reconnect the upper steering link (A, Figure 12) to
the bell crank (B) using the original hardware.
10. Disengage the parking brake and check that the belt
guides do not interfere with the belt. Belt guides
should be adjusted 1/4” to 1/8” away from drive belts.
11. Lower the tractor.
