10 Transmission Removal & Installation
Hydro-Gear 0500 / 0650 Models
Transmission Installation -
Hydro-Gear 0500 / 0650
NOTE: Reinstall the carrier assembly if not already done.
1. Block the front wheels and elevate the rear end. See
ELEVATING REAR END FOR SAFE SERVICE,
Section 6. Support the frame with jackstands.
2. Pivot the transmission belt guide and torsion bar out
of the way.
3. Using a hydraulic floor jack, lift the transmission into
the frame (see Figure 17). Be careful not to damage
the fan or release lever.
4. Install the two rear mounting capscrews (K, Figure
15). Do not tighten at this time.
5. Rotate the torsion bar into place.
6. Install the two front mounting capscrews (G, Figure
15). Do not tighten at this time.
7. Install the four rear mounting capscrews (E, Figure
15) and torsion bar retainers (F). Tighten all mount-
ing bolts at this time.
8. Reconnect the transmission control linkage. Reinstall
the bolt (I, Figure 15) and nut (H)
9. Reconnect the rear brake rod (A, Figure 16) to the
brake control arm. Secure with a washer and cotter
pin (B).
10. Engage the parking brake.
11. Rotate the drive belt (B, Figure 15) through the trans-
mission pulley fan blades (A) and into the pulley
groove.
12. Disengage the parking brake.
13. Lock the transmission belt guide into place
(C, Figure 15).
14. Reinstall the rear wheels (see REAR WHEEL
INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL, Section 6).
15. Perform the transmission neutral adjustment (see
NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT, Section 4).
