10 Transmission Removal & Installation
Hydro-Gear 0500 / 0650 Models
HYDRO-GEAR 0500 / 0650
General
Removal of the Hydro-Gear 0500 and 0650 transmission
is accomplished by removing the drive belt, disconnect-
ing the transmission and brake linkage, and removing
the eight transmission mounting bolts. Installation is the
reverse of this process.
Transmission Removal -
Hydro-Gear 0500 / 0650
1. Block the front wheels and elevate the rear end. See
ELEVATING REAR END FOR SAFE SERVICE,
Section 6. Support the frame with jackstands and
the transmission with a hydraulic floor jack (see
Figures 4 and 5).
2. Remove the rear wheels, spacers, washers, and
keys. See REAR WHEEL INSTALLATION AND
REMOVAL, Section 6.
3. Engage the parking brake to slacken the belt, and
remove the drive belt from the rear idler pulley
(A, Figure 13).
4. Release the parking brake.
5. Remove the transmission belt guide (C, Figure 14)
from the belt guide hook (J) and pivot it out of the
way.
6. Rotate the drive belt (B, Figure 14) through the fan
blades (A) and off the transmission pulley.
7. Remove the capscrew (I, Figure 14) and nut (H) con-
necting the pedal linkage to the transmission control
arm.
