Drill Driver 18V

246525

Operation

Direction control

WARNING:

NEVER change the direction of rotation while the tool is running.

•  The direction of rotation can be set using the Forward/Reverse Switch (5)
•  For anti-clockwise rotation, holding the drill in a normal operating position, push the

switch to the right

•  For clockwise rotation, push the switch to the left

Note:

When the Forward/Reverse Switch is in the central position, the drill is locked and

cannot be switched on. Use this setting as a safety feature to prevent the drill from being
switched on accidentally.

Torque control and mode selection

This drill is fitted with a Torque Selector (3). This controls the torque output of the drill,
enabling screws to be driven without the risk of damage to the screw head or workpiece if
set correctly. A clutch within the tool will slip once the maximum torque is reached. There
are 16 torque settings and a drill mode.
•  The higher the torque setting chosen, the higher the amount of torque available. Select

the correct setting for the screw size you are driving. Over time you will get to know the
required setting for the type and size of screw

•  The Torque Selector is numbered and has dot settings in-between the printed numbers

to give the full 16 settings

•  Rotate the Torque Selector ring to select the correct torque
•  For drill mode, rotate the Torque Selector to the drill symbol.

This will lock the clutch out for maximum torque

Switching on/off

WARNING:

Always wear adequate personal protection equipment when setting up and

operating this machine.

1.  To start the drill, squeeze the Trigger Switch (6)

Note:

If the Trigger Switch cannot be pressed down, check that the Forward/Reverse

Switch (5) is not set to its middle position, which locks the device (see “Direction control”).

2.  The speed of the drill is controlled by the movement of the trigger: the further the

trigger is pressed down, the faster the drill will run

3.  Release the Trigger Switch to stop the machine

Note:

A built-in work light will operate each time the Trigger Switch is pressed to illuminate

the work area.

Screwdriver use

Note:

Use a universal bit holder (not supplied) when working with screwdriver bits. Only

mount screwdriver bits directly into the chuck if it is essential to access a screw head. Use
a bit holder at all other times.
•  When driving screws NEVER use the machine in drill mode. This will protect the motor

by causing the clutch to slip rather than the motor to stall when the screw is fully
inserted in the workpiece and cannot rotate any further

•  Always adjust the drill to the appropriate torque setting (see “Torque control and mode

selection”)

Note:

If in doubt about which torque setting best suits the application, start with a low

setting and increase, should more torque be required (e.g. if the screw is not being driven
far enough into the workpiece).

Drilling wood

•  Select drill mode with the Torque Selector (3)
•  Ensure that drill bits are suitable for wood, and are within the maximum capacity of this

power tool (see “Specification”)

WARNING:

The dust produced from working with some materials can be toxic. Beech,

oak, mahogany and teak natural woods, man-made composite woods and some surface
treatments including paint with lead are toxic. Lead-based paint is common in buildings
built before 1960. Always wear suitable respiratory protection; for example, a respirator
face mask. Use a dust extraction system or regularly vacuum the work area to prevent the
build-up of dust. In addition, vacuum the work area after the work has been completed.
Most dust is a fire hazard. Overhead work surfaces have an increased safety risk for dust.

Drilling metal

•  Select drill mode with the Torque Selector (3)
•  Ensure that drill bits are suitable for the grade of metal being drilled and are within the

maximum capacity of the machine (see “Specification”)

•  To ensure accuracy, mark the intended hole position using a hammer and centre punch

WARNING:

The drill bit and the workpiece will become very hot when drilling metal. DO

NOT touch the bit and never allow it to come into contact with combustible materials when
hot. Always use a suitable lubricant or cutting fluid, and drill at appropriate speeds.
•  Only apply moderate pressure to the drill bit, ensuring efficient cutting and prolonged

drill bit life

•  Use a countersink bit to remove sharp burrs from the hole, preventing cuts and other

kinds of injury

Accessories

•  A full range of accessories, including drill bits, screwdriver bits, wire brushes etc, is

available from your Silverline dealer. Spare batteries can be ordered through your
Silverline dealer or toolsparesonline.com.

Maintenance

WARNING:

Always remove the plug from the mains power supply before carrying out any

maintenance/cleaning of the Charger (12). Remove the Battery (9) before carrying out any
maintenance/cleaning of the drill.

Note:

Both the drill and the Charger contain no user-serviceable parts. If the device does

not perform as outlined in this manual, return it to an authorised Silverline service centre
for repair.

Cleaning

•  Keep your machine clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear

quickly, and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of your machine with
a soft brush, or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through
the ventilation holes

Storage

•  Store this tool in its original case where provided after it has been thoroughly cleaned
•  Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children. Store in its

original case if a case is provided

Disposal

IMPORTANT:

This tool includes a Ni-Cd battery pack which should not be disposed of with

the power tool. Dispose of the battery pack according to national or regional regulations
in your country.
Always adhere to national regulations when disposing of power tools that are no longer
functional and are not viable for repair.
•  Do not dispose of power tools, batteries, or other waste electrical and electronic

equipment (WEEE), with household waste

•  Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct  way to

dispose of power tools or batteries
