DIFFERENTIALS 7E-13
22) Before continuing with the assembly check the alabeo of
the crown with gauge (E) as indicated . It should not be
above the specified limit.
Maximum alabeo of the crown:
0.10 mm
23) If reading is above the specified value it could be this is due
to the crown itself. This might represent to have to replace
the complete conical pair, both, crown and pinion.
NOTE:
Before taking action on this subject, dismantle the
crown and check el alabeo at the seating area of the
differential box because, sometimes, the defect is
located around this point.
Adjustment of the play between teeth
24) Cancel all play between crown and pinion.
To do this, proceed as follows:
• Fit a dial gauge (E) with the dip stick on a tooth of the
crown.
• Loose nut (3
1
), located in front of the crown, by two or
three threads above the lid.
• Tighten nut (3
2
) located behind the crown, till cancelling
the play between teeth when measuring with the
comparator gauge (E).

25) Loose slightly nut (3
2
).
26) Tighten nut (3
1
) till displacing the crown ( )backwards and
measure play between teeth with the comparator (E)..
27) Keep loosening bit by bit nut (3
2
) and tightening at the same
time nut (3
1
) till achieving the specified play between teeth.
28) Once the specified play between teeth has been achieved
tighten both nuts some half a turn .This tightening
corresponds to the preloading of the rolling elements of the
differential box.
Play between pinion teeth and crown:
0.2 ÷ 0.25 mm
