piston ring (trapezoidal)
9) Check play between piston ring 1 and piston slit or groove
as follows:
• Install piston ring in the corresponding piston slit or groove
piston.
• Fit piston in a cylinder as shown. Piston ring 1 must come
out approximately one half by the upper part of cylinder
(13).
• In this position, measure play (X) using a thickness calliper.
Play must be within specifications.
Play between trapezoidal piston ring and slit or
groove:
0,103 ÷ 0,162 mm

Check distances between the piston rings extremes
10) Install piston ring to be checked on a cylinder as shown.
Piston ring must lodge in cylinder parallel to upper face of
the block .
11) Check distances between the extremes using a thickness
calliper (F). Distance must agree with specified values
Distance between piston rings extremes:
• 1
st
piston ring: 0,20 ÷ 0,35 mm
• 2
nd
piston ring: 0,30 ÷ 0,50 mm
• 3
rd
piston ring: 0,30 ÷ 0,55 mm
Connecting rods check
CAUTION:
Weight reduction of connecting rods by chipping out
material is strongly no recommended
1) Concerning connecting rods , noting the following remarks
• A same number engraved in body and cover mean good
matching between both.
• In cover, a letter engraved (o) or (x) means the diameter of
head chosed for installation while produced in the car
factory.
• In some cases, it can mean the installation order on the
engine. When replacing connecting rod mark on the new
one the installation order on the engine. This mark should
be made in the opposite side of half ball bearingsfixes .
• Connecting rods for replacements come with a diameter of
head of 60,341÷ 60,348 mm marked with the letter (O)
and the kind of weight marked with the number(33).
• Connecting rods must all belong to the same cathegory.
• Substitute all four connecting rods leven if there is only
one with defects; keep only the one weighing the same
than the ones supplied as spares.
