6C-14 ENGINE FUEL AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
Thermostarter inspection
1) Start engine, loosen outlet screw (2) and check that the fuel
comes out; if this is not the case, there is an obstruction in
pipe (10); check and replace if necessary.
2) With the coolant, fuel or air temperature below 0ºC, check
that there is tension in the coupler (4) and in thermostarter
spark plug electro-valve (1) when starting the engine. If this
is not the case, check and repair.
Electro-valve inspection
3) Switching on and off the tension in coupler (4), check for the
sound which indicates the functioning of the electro-magnet;
if this is not the case, replace the electro-valve.
4) With coolant, fuel or air temperature below 0ºC, loosen the
outlet (8), try to start the engine and check the fuel comes
out; if this is not the case the electro-valve is broken or the
interconnecting pipe (9) is obstructed.

Thermostarter spark plug inspection
5) Carry out the initial installation for the spark plug as follows:
• remove interconnecting pipe (9) and spark plug (7)
• plug housing (11) on intake manifold casing (12)
• assemble thermostarter spark plug (7) outside the vehicle
as indicated, including electrical supply cable (1).
6) With coolant, fuel or air temperature below 0ºC, try starting
the engine. Check that the spark plug electrode heats/burns
the fuel coming from the electro-valve. If not, replace the
thermostarter (7).
7) Carry out the final assembly as previously indicated (see
6C-13), fitting new joints and tightening to the corresponding
torque.
