ENGINE FUEL AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM 6C-47
AIR INTAKE SYSTEM
PRECAUTION IN CLEANING AND REPAIRING AIR INTAKE SYSTEM
CAUTION:
The entry of foreign bodies, dust particles, dirt, water, etc. in the fuel system produces irreparable damage
to the fuel injection equipment. To avoid this, suitably cover the open conducts during removal.
Before repair
Before any intervention on the air intake system, strictly respect the following:
• Place the vehicle in an appropriate work place, free from dust and air currents which could bring particles in
suspension.
• Disconnect the battery before cleaning, disconnecting or repair
• Use new recommended cleaning products, clean brushes in good state and compressed air
• Clean all tools and work-benches with appropriate dissolvent and brush them and blow-dry
• If gloves are used, they must be latex
• Prepare the suitable protection elements: plugs and hermetic plastic bags
During repair
• when a conduct is opened, suitably plug it immediately
• any element of the system that is removed must be placed in a hermetic plastic bag, after having been plugged
• once a conduct is open, the use of brushes, cleaning products, compressed air or traditional cloths is strictly
prohibited. These may introduce foreign bodied into the system
• in the event of replacing a used element with a new one, take the latter out of its wrapping just before fitting
• the dismantled air filter can only be cleaned by compressed air, blowing from the side opposite admission
• the turbocompressor must not be cleaned with compressed air; this might turn the rotor, which not being lubricated,
could produce irreparable damage to the turbocompressor body
• check the interior of the conducts before assembly or connecting - they must be clean of foreign bodies: dust
particles, dirt, liquid etc...
