4. Improper Fusing temperature may result in increased paper curl, decreased Hot Roller life and Toner
accumulation on the Hot Roller. This may result in Offsetting or Hot Roller paper wraps. Ensure the
machine is placed properly to allow proper ventilation. Check the Fusing Exhaust Fan operation to
ensure the fan is blowing air out of the machine. Verify that the Fuser Lamp is in the
Lowest
Lamp
Terminal Holder position on both the Front and Rear Terminals. Adjust the Fusing Unit Temperature to
specification with SP Mode1-105- 1 & 2. Clean the Fusing Thermistor on EM calls and apply a drop of
silicon oil to the surface of the Thermistor.
5. Check the operation of the Junction Gate. Confirm that the solenoid allows for a smooth and
unobstructed movement. Ensure that all the fingers are intact and that the shaft is not cracked. Replace
the Junction Gate as required with part number A2324452 (TSB A230/A231/A231- 025).
6. The Hot Roller Strippers, Springs and the Mounting Bracket may become damaged from improper paper
removal. The Hot Roller Strippers should evenly contact the Hot Roller. A mixture of Toner and paper
dust on the Hot Roller strippers may cause the strippers to position away from the Hot Roller’s surface.
Clean the strippers and confirm that the tension is equal for each stripper on every EM call. An improved
Teflon coating has been applied to the strippers to minimize any adhesion of toner and paper dust on the
strippers. Additionally, stronger springs are being implemented in production to reduce the occurrence
of paper wrapping around the Hot Roller. The new type strippers and springs are provided as part of the
Right Door Switch Kit.
7. Inspect the Hot Roller for deep scratches (core visible) and replace as necessary with P/N AE011041.
Utilize only the recommended Hot Roller on the A230/A231/A232 product family to prevent Offsetting or
other issues that will impact product reliability.
8. The Pressure Roller Strippers must be installed. They are designed to prevent thin paper or OHP sheets
from wrapping around the Pressure Roller. If the Pressure Roller Strippers are worn or damaged,
replace them (quantity 2) with part number AE044024 (TSB A230/A231/A232-015). It is not
recommended to operate the A230, A231, and A232 models with the strippers removed.
Additional Technical Information:
1. The Fusing Entrance Guide is set from the factory in the “Thin” position. For some types of paper or if
paper creasing is observed, the Entrance Guide should be moved to the Thick position. Reference pg.
2-66 of the Service Manual.
2. The coating of the Pressure Roller will appear wrinkled when the roller is below operating temperature.
This occurs by design due to the manufacturing process of applying the Teflon Sleeve coating over the
pre-heated rubber roller. Replace the Pressure Roller only if it is physically damaged (coating broken,
gouged) or at the recommended interval (150k).
3. The Right Door Switch Kit includes a Relay harness for the Transfer Belt Waste Toner Sensor. The
contacts for the Relay Harness are improved (February 1999 production) to prevent the occurrence of a
False “Empty Used Toner” condition.
