SUBJECT: DEVELOPMENT UNIT UPDATES

UPDATE 1:
SYMPTOMS:
1. Developer is leaking only from the front of the Development Unit.
2. Noise from the Development Unit may occur in a copy mode (more than 40 sheets).
3. Developer is leaking from both ends of the Development Unit.
CAUSES:
1. When a large number of copies are made, the temperature in the Paddle Bushing area increases.
This increased heat causes a deformation of the V-ring, which is designed to act as a developer shield.
The deformation of the V-ring results in developer leaking from the front of the Development Unit.
2. The temperature of the rubber shield ring in the paddle roller increases as copies are made. This results
in increased friction between the rubber ring shield and the retainer causing noise from the development
unit. See figure 1 below.
3. A gap may develop between the Sponge Seal and the Case of the Development Unit, this gap may
cause air to flow from inside of the Development Unit to the outside. This outward flowing air may push
developer out of both sides of the Development Unit. See figure 1 below.
