7.4 Main error messages and their remedies
Message Cause Remedy
PAPER JAM
OPEN 1st SIDE COVER A paper misfeed occurred in the
machine. Open the cover at the indicated lo-
cation, and then remove the misfed
paper. Refer to “When the message
“PAPER JAM” appears” on
page 7-6.
All misfed paper was not removed
from inside of the machine. Open the cover at the indicated lo-
cation, and then remove all misfed
paper. Refer to “When the message
“PAPER JAM” appears” on
page 7-6.
ORIGINAL DOC.JAM
OPEN DOC.FEED COVER A document misfeed occurred in
the document feeder. All misfed
paper was not removed from the
document feeder. Open the cover at the indicated lo-
cation, and then remove the misfed
paper. Refer to “When the message
“ORIGINAL DOC. JAM” ap-
pears” on page 7-22.
REMOVE PAPER
IN BYPASS TRAY Paper remains in the manual by-
pass tray. Remove the paper from the manual
bypass tray.
FRONT COVER OPEN
CLOSE FRONT COVER The front door of the machine is
open or not securely closed. Securely close the front door of the
machine.
DUPLEX COVER OPEN
CLOSE DUPLEX COVER The duplex unit cover is open or
not securely closed. Securely close the duplex unit cov-
er.
DOCUMENT COVER OPEN
CLOSE DOCUMENT COV-
ER The document feeder is raised
while a document is loaded into it. Securely close the document feed-
er.
DOC.FEED COVER OPEN
CLOSE DOC.FEED COVER The misfeed-clearing cover of the
document feeder is open. Securely close the misfeed-clear-
ing cover.
TONER EMPTY
SUPPLY TONER The toner is empty.
Copying/printing cannot be per-
formed. Replace the toner bottle with a new
one. Refer to “Replacing the toner
bottle” on page 7-3.
PAPER EMPTY
LOAD PAPER (#XXX) The selected paper drawer has run
out of paper. “#” indicates the pa-
per drawer, and “XXX” indicates
the paper size. Load paper of the specified size
into the specified paper drawer.
SET ORIGINAL TO ADF A document was not loaded into
the document feeder before begin-
ning a copy function (such as,
“Mixed Original” copying) that
uses the document feeder. Other-
wise, the document feeder is
raised. Load a document into the docu-
ment feeder.
REMOVE ORIGINAL IN
ADF When interrupting a copy job to
perform a different copy operation
other than the “BOOK SEPARA-
TION” function, the document for
the interrupted copy job was left in
the document feeder. Remove the document from the
document feeder.
