Once you set a password, you must enter it before you can enter Setup; this
feature allows only an authorized user to change system parameters. In ad-
dition, you can choose to require the password be entered each time you start
the system and each time the system resumes from Suspend mode.
A Keyboard Lock feature lets you lock your keyboard when you are away
from your NEC Versa 6000. This feature works only if you set a password
in Setup.
Setting an Initial System Password
Set an initial password as follows.
1.
Select Security from the menu bar.

Select "Set Password" by pressing
Enter
.
3.
At the prompt, enter a password up to seven characters long. Then, as
prompted, reenter your password for verification. Write your password
down and keep it in a secure place in case you forget it.
4.
Press
Enter
to return to the Security screen.
5.
If you want to require the password each time you start your system,
move the cursor to “Password on boot” and select “Enabled.”
6.
If you want to require the password each time the system resumes from
Suspend mode, move the cursor to “Password on Resume” and select
“Enabled.”
7.
Press
ESC
to display the Exit screen. Here you can select “Save Changes
and Exit” to save your password and reboot your system.
You will have three attempts to enter the password correctly. After the
third attempt, the system will be disabled. Reboot the system and try to
reenter the password. If you forget your password, see “Setting
Switches”, for password override information.
