Changing the OS Password
The OS (operating system) password is a unique, factory set password that is recorded in the
Proof of Performance documents provided with the transmitter. It should not be necessary to
change this password unless a new image file has been burned on the compact flash card (see
“Updating or Replacing Compact Flash Card” on page 4-4
security breech and access to the transmitter is compromised.
To change the OS password, you will need to connect to the single board computer using SSH.
A common utility for Windows users to remotely connect is PuTTY, while Linux users can
use ‘ssh’ from the command line. PuTTY is available at
ftp://www3.nautel.com/Utilities/
puTTy/putty.exe
; if unable to open this link, use a search engine to find new URL.
Note:
If the transmitter does not have Internet access, you can connect a laptop to J1 of the
SBC (A1U1) on the back of the control cabinet’s front door using a CAT5 Ethernet cable.
Follow the instructions for
“Transmitter IP Configuration” on page 4-2
and
(to connect directly to transmitter)” on page 4-2
. Restore the former network settings on the
transmitter and laptop as required after OS password has been changed.
Change the OS password as follows:
1. Connect to the transmitter IP address using your selected SSH client using Port 22.
2. Login with username
root
and the OS password recorded in your proof of
Performance documents.
3. At the prompt, type the command
passwd
. This is the Linux command to change
your password.
4. Enter and confirm your new password.
5. Record your new password on the Proof of Performance document provided with the
transmitter. If you would like Nautel to track your password for support purposes,
please email [email protected] with your new information.
6. Close the console window.
NOTE!
If a replacement CF (compact flash) card is purchased through
Nautel, the OS password will be programed with what we have on file
for your transmitter. If no password is on file, a new unique password
will be programmed and sent along with the CF card.
