CAUTION

•

Do not depress the accelerator pedal to

race the engine while the vehicle is stop-

ped (regardless of whether the engine is

running or stopped).

•

On vehicles with M/T, do not move the

gearshift lever to a position other than the

“N” (Neutral) position.

If the gearshift lever is moved to a posi-

tion other than the “N” (Neutral) position,

the indication lamp/

indicator

display blinks and the buzzer sounds.

If the gearshift lever is returned to the “N”

(Neutral) position, the indication lamp/

indicator display stops blinking and

the buzzer stops sounding. The engine

will not restart if the gearshift lever is in a

position other than the “N” (Neutral) posi-

tion.

NOTE

In the following cases, the indication

lamp/

indicator display will blink to

inform the driver and the engine will not

stop automatically.

•

Driver’s seat belt is not fastened.

•

Driver’s door is open.

•

Bonnet is open.

In the following cases, the indication

lamp/

indicator display will turn off

and the engine will not stop automatically

even if the vehicle is stopped.

NOTE

•

After the engine starts, the vehicle speed

has not exceeded approximately 5 km/h

(3 mph).

•

After the engine start, approximately 30

seconds or more have not elapsed.

•

After the engine restarts automatically, the

vehicle stops again within 10 seconds.

•

Engine coolant temperature is low.

•

Ambient temperature is low.

•

When using the heater, vehicle interior

temperature is not warm enough.

•

Air conditioner is operating and passenger

compartment has not sufficiently cooled.

•

Demister switch is pressed.

Refer to “Demisting of the windscreen

and door windows: For quick demisting”

on page 7-12.

•

When the air conditioner is operated in

AUTO mode where the temperature con-

trol is set to the max. hot or the max. cool.

•

Electric power consumption is high, such

as when the rear window demister or oth-

er electrical components are operating or

the blower speed is set to a high setting.

•

Battery voltage or battery performance is

low.

•

Check engine warning lamp is illuminated

or the

indication lamp/

indicator

display is blinking.

•

The selector lever is in another position

than in the “D” (Drive) position (CVT).

•

ASC operation indicator and ASC OFF

indicator is turn on (CVT).

NOTE

•

ABS warning lamp is turned on.

•

CVT warning lamp will turn on/warning

display will display (CVT).

•

While the catalyst is being purged auto-

matically (diesel-powered vehicles).

In the following cases, the engine will not

stop automatically even if indication

lamp/

indicator display turn on.

•

Push the accelerator pedal.

•

Brake booster vacuum pressure is low.

•

Operate the steering wheel.

•

Brake pedal is not sufficiently depressed

(CVT).

•

Parking on steep hill (CVT).

•

Parking brake operates (CVT).

On vehicles with M/T, do not rest your foot

on the clutch pedal while driving because

this will cause detection of clutch pedal

switch malfunction and blinking of Auto

Stop & Go (AS&G) OFF display/indicator,

and Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) system will

not operate.

For vehicles equipped with the brake auto

hold system, the engine will not stop auto-

matically even if the indication lamp/

indicator display turns on when the brake

auto hold indication lamp is illuminated. In

this case, depress the brake pedal as the en-

gine stops automatically.
