Front Thunderbolt adapter kit

The front Thunderbolt adapter kit includes the following parts:

• A front Thunderbolt I/O adapter

• A front Thunderbolt PCI Express x4 card

• A bezel

• A GPIO cable

• A Mini-SAS cable

• An internal DP-to-DP cable

• An external DP-to-DP cables

To install or replace a front Thunderbolt adapter kit, do the following:

1. Prepare your computer. See “Preparing your computer and removing the computer cover” on page 101.

2. Record the cable connections and cable routing. Then disconnect all cables connected to the front

Thunderbolt I/O adapter and the system board.

3. Remove the flex module out of the chassis.. See “Device in an optical-drive bay” on page 107.

4. Lift the clip on the rear of the flex module, and then slide the flex module cover to the rear of the flex

module.

5. If you are replacing a front Thunderbolt I/O adapter, do the following to remove the old front Thunderbolt

adapter first:

a. Record the cable connections and cable routing. Then disconnect all cables connected to the

front Thunderbolt I/O adapter.
