3.11.7 Battery
WARNING
Explosion.
Can cause severe injury or death.
Relays in the battery charger cause arcs or sparks.
Locate the battery in a well
‐
ventilated area. Isolate the battery charger from explosive
fumes.
Perform battery storage after all other storage procedures.
1. Confirm that the generator set is stopped.
2. Disconnect the battery(ies), negative (-) lead first.
3. Clean the battery. Refer to the battery cleaning procedure.
4. Place the battery in a cool, dry location.
5. Connect the battery to a float/equalize battery charger or charge it monthly with a trickle battery charger. Refer to the
battery charger manufacturer’s recommendations.
Maintain a full charge to extend battery life.
Note:
If the battery is an absorbed glass mat (AGM) type, ensure that the battery charger is compatible with AGM type batteries before
charging
