5.3.5 Disturbances during Measurement
A

on the bottom line at the right hand side of the display will indicate
signal loss. The pipe cannot be sufficiently acoustically penetrated and the received
signal cannot be used for measurement. The last correct reading will remain on the
display:

Suggested actions to overcome the problem
FIRST:
Wait a little while until the acoustic
contact is established again.
Temporarily, there might be a higher
proportion of gaseous or solid particles
in the flowing medium.
SECOND:
Check that there is a film of acoustic coupling
component between the transducers and
pipewall. Renew film if necessary. Start the
sequence to position the transducers again.
Adjust transducers for maximum acoustic
contact.
THIRD:
Change from using the reflection to the
diagonal-path mode. The signal
attenuation might be too high because
of high fluid viscosity or deposits on the
inner pipewall.
FOURTH:
Find a more suitable measuring point along
the pipework.
