Wall Thickness Measurement
Attention!
Temperature fluctuations change the sound velocity of the material. The zero
adjustment of the probe using a comparative block should be performed at the
measuring location to minimise the effect of temperature fluctuations.
12.5.2 Measurement of the Sound Velocity
c-LONGITUDINAL
m/s?
M* This display appears after the calibration, if
sound velocity was selected as the quantity
of measurement. When there is no valid
measuring value, the unit of measurement
and a question mark are shown on the
lower display line.
c-LONGITUDINAL
√
5370 m/s
M* Firmly press the probe bearing a film of the
acoustic coupling component against the
test piece (the pipe) for the measurement of
its sound velocity. As soon as a valid
measuring value has been obtained, a tick
sign and the sound velocity are shown.
12.5.3 Further Information when Measuring

With these keys, the displays showing
further information about the measurement
status can be switched ON or OFF.
The meaning of the messages is as follows:
NO COUPLING
Wall thickness
M* No signal can be detected.
•
Either there is no coupling component,
•
or the input value for the sound
velocity in program branch
PARAMETER is inaccurate.
MATER.
TOO THICK
Wall Thickness
M* The thickness of the test piece (the pipe) is
greater than the upper measuring limit of
the probe.
MATER. TOO THIN
Wall Thickness
M* The thickness of the test piece (the pipe) is
thinner than the lower measuring limit of the
probe.
ERROR SIGNAL
Wall thickness
F* FLUXUS cannot process the signal of the
probe.
