Replacing the batteries

If the batteries have extremely low charge, the charging circuit may not
recognize them. To manually detect the batteries, go to the SYSTEM
SETUP > BATTERY menu, and then press the pound/hash (#) key to
manually detect the batteries and begin charging.
3 Let the SmartClass charge for 2 to 4 hours for a fast charge; for maximum
capacity, allow the SmartClass to (trickle) charge overnight.
The charging time will be the same whether the power is on or off.
The
Batt LED is amber when the unit is fast charging. The SmartClass will
trickle charge at other times when the charger is connected and the Batt
LED is green.
After the Batt LED turns green (fast charge is complete), allow the unit to
trickle charge overnight for maximum performance.
Charging the batteries is complete.
Replacing the batteries
The battery compartment is located on the back of the unit, as shown in
Figure 10 .
The following procedure describes how to replace the batteries.
WARNING: DAMAGE TO BATTERIES
Forcing charge on Alkaline batteries may damage the batteries. Only per-
form the force charge on rechargeable batteries.
CAUTION: BATTERY LIFE MAY VARY
Short charge–discharge cycles can occur with brand new batteries or bat-
teries that have exceeded their useful life. If this occurs with new batteries,
try charging again. If the batteries have exceeded their useful life, try
another set of batteries.
