Traceroute testing

Traceroute testing
Traceroute testing is used when a connection or PING is slow and you need to
locate the network segment which is causing the delay. It transmits a series of
ICMP PINGS while changing the TTL (Time to Live) of each request and
watches for the response of the upstream routers.
This procedure involves two main steps:
– configure the destination web URL address
– run the test
To run a Traceroute test
1 Specify the settings on the TRACEROUTE SETUP menu.

“Specifying traceroute settings” on page 40 .
2 View the test results.
a Select MODEM TEST .
b Select ADVANCED .
c Select TRACEROUTE .
Traceroute will start automatically and display a list of routers, including
the IP address, name (if available), and delay.

ATM OAM loopback testing
ATM loopback testing is used to verify ATM circuit end to end or segment provi-
sioning. This test uses the operations and maintenance (OAM) channel to
send F4 and F5 loopback commands. The ADSL/Copper Tester uses the VPI/
VCI configured on the WAN SETUP screen for this test.
To run an OAM loopback test
1 Select MODEM TEST .
2 Select ADVANCED .
3 Select OAM LPBK .
4 Use the left or right arrows to select the type of loopback (PING TYPE).
5 Specify the number of loopback requests to send (1-20).
6 Press the # key (or the OK key) to transmit the loop command to the appli-
cable device.
The status is displayed at the top of the menu (reply or fail).
