WARNING
You can be injured if you do not wear the proper
clothing. Loose clothing can get caught in the
machinery. Wear protective clothing to suit the job.
Examples of protective clothing are: a hard hat, safety
shoes, safety glasses, a well fitting overall, ear-
protectors and industrial gloves. Keep cuffs fastened. Do
not wear a necktie or scarf. Keep long hair restrained.
INT-1-3-6
The removal of the drive motors can be divided into two
sections: removal of the drive sprockets and chains, and
removal of the motors themselves.
Before starting this job, remove the roadwheels (see page
F/1 - 1).
Note:
The illustration shows early type motors but although
later motors are visually different the same procedure
applies.
Removal of the Drive Sprocket
Remove bolts
1
(6 off) and washers
2
(6 off). Take off cover
3
, remove and discard gasket
4
.
On machines up to serial number 676701, turn the stub axles
until the drive chains are at their slackest (see page F/1 - 3).
On machines from serial number 676702, swing the stub
axles to slacken the drive chains (see oage F/1 - 6).
Remove bolts
5
and withdraw spider
6
. Draw out sprocket
7
,
then remove and discard oil seal
8
. Note that oil seal
8
was
not fitted to machines after serial number 676354.
Examine the condition of bearing
9
. Do not remove it unless
it is to be renewed.
Removal of Motors
Remove the drive sprocket as previously detailed.
Disconnect the hydraulic hoses from the motors
A
. Plug
exposed connections. Withdraw capscrews
B
. The motors
can now be lifted clear.
Replacement
Replacement is the reversal of the removal procedure.
Renew all seals and 'O' rings.
Apply JCB Threadlocker & Sealer to bolts
5
before fitting.
Apply JCB High Strength Retainer to capscrews
B
before
fitting.
Note:
On machines after serial number 677052 capscrews
B
are increased in size to M12. Earlier machines may be fitted
with the larger capscrews if required (see Technical
Information Bulletin 12/017, N.Am. E141).
On manual machines after serial number 677723 capscrews
B
are further increased in size to M14. Servo machines also
changed but at a slightly earlier serial number. It is not
possible to fit the M14 capscrews to earlier machines fitted
with the single bearing motor.
The M14 capscrews have since been changed to M14
setscrews with hardened plain washers and no spring
washer. The setscrews and hardened washers may be fitted
as complete sets to earlier machines in place of the M14 cap
screws, plain and spring washers.
Adjust the drive chain tension (see page 3/9 - 2 for machines
up to serial number 676701; see page F/1 - 7 for machines
from serial number 676702) before fitting motor cover
3
.
