al free travel to within the limits given.
3. Press the clutch pedal down through
its full travel five times, recheck the
free travel and readjust if necessary.
Live PTO clutch (Fig. 36)
Check the clutch setting every 1000
hours.
Check the clutch adjustment more
frequently if heavy PTO work has been
involved.
1. Remove the four bolts and the inspec-
tion cover from the underside of the
clutch housing.

2. with the stop control out. Rotate the
engine until one of the three adjusters
is visible in the inspection aperture.
3. With the aid of a feeler gauge, check
the clearance ‹A› between the bolt
head and the clutch plate. It should be
2 mm (0.080 in).
4. If adjustment is required, slacken the
nut and adjust the bolt to the correct
clearance and retighten the nut.
5. Carry out the same procedure for the
other two adjusters and replace the in-
spection cover.
Note
Tractors with IPTO and single plate
clutches do not require this adjustment.
Brakes (Figs. 37 and 38)
Warning
If the brake pedal travel is excessive,
or the pedal action feels ‹spongy›, or if
in any way air has been admitted to the
brake cylinders or hydraulic fluid lines,
or there is any leakage of fluid from the
system, notify your Massey-Ferguson
Dealer immediately for investigation and
rectification.
Brake fluid (Fig. 37)
Check the brake fluid level every
250 hours.
Warning
It is very important that the following
safety precautions are observed in
relation to brake fluid:
1. Keep only in the original container.
2. Keep out of reach of children.
3. Do not mix with other liquids or oils.
Keep the container tightly closed.
4. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes.
5. Wear suitable protective clothing
and gloves.
6. In the event of eye contact, wash im-
