Tractor operation
32
1. Ensure that the parking brake is engaged.
2. Move the gearbox dual range selec-
tor lever, and PTO lever to the neutral
(central) position to engage the safety
start switches. Then put all gear le-
vers and the auxiliary hydraulic control
levers in their neutral positions. Move
the hydraulic quadrant levers to the
DOWN position.
3. Set the hand throttle to the fully open
position.
4. Turn the starter switch key clockwise
to operate the starter. When the engine
starts, allow the key to return to the
auxiliary position.
5. Set the hand throttle to a fast idle po-
sition (approximately 1200 rev/min)
for two or three minutes, before put-
ting the engine under heavy load.
Note
If the engine does not start and run
after using the normal starting proce-
dure, remove the air from the fuel sys-
tem, using the procedure detailed in the
maintenance and adjustment section on
page 65. If the engine still fails to start,
see ITMCO Dealer.
Cold weather starting (Thermo-
start) (Fig. 2)
Warning
Full power steering is not immedi-
ately available when the tractor is start-
ed in very cold conditions, (below 0°C)
(32°F). In these conditions allow the
tractor engine to run for three minutes
before driving the tractor.
Caution
Do not use Ether on engines equipped
with Thermostart.
Note
If the fuel system has been disturbed,
the tractor has been standing unused
or the thermostart not used for some
time, ensure that fuel is available at the
thermostart before use. Operate the fuel
pump hand priming lever several times
and slacken the thermostart union (Fig.
2), allowing fuel to seep out. Then tighten
the union. Failure to observe this precau-
tion may result in a discharged battery.
Before starting
1. Carry out the Daily Maintenance as de-
scribed in the maintenance and adjust-
ment section on page 58.
2. Ensure that there is sufficient fuel in
the tank.
3. If the tractor has been standing (Out of
service for a long time) for some time,
operate the fuel pump hand priming le-
ver (Fig. 1) several times.
