Removing water or impurities (Fig.

Check the fuel filter bowl and drain
off any water or impurities - Flexible
maintenance.
1. Check for water or impurities in the
glass sediment bowl(1) on the base of
the filter(s).
2. If necessary, open the drain tap (2) to
allow the water and other impurities
to escape.
3. Actuate the lift pump (Fig. 25) to refill
the filter.
Fuel filter(s) (Figs. 21 to 23)
Change the fuel filter every 500 hours.
1. Turn off the engine.
2. Clean the outside of the filter assem-
bly.
3. Drain the filter by unscrewing the tap
(1 Figs. 21 and 22).

4. Turn the filter element (2 Fig. 22) un-
ticlockwise by wrench (3 Fig. 22) and
remove it.
5. Discard the element (2).
6. Reaassemble with new filter element
and a new gasket (4 Fig. 22).
7. Remove air from the fuel system and
check for leaks.

Removing air from the system
(Figs. 23 to 29)
If at any time air enters the fuel sys-
tem, either due to fuel system servicing,
or running out of fuel, the following pro-
cedure must be used:
1. Loosen the thermostart fuel pipe nut
(Fig. 23) or vent plug (Fig. 24) on top
of the fuel filter.
2. Operate the priming lever on the fuel
lift pump (Fig. 25) until fuel, free from
