The P2 Solar Pump Drive
The P2 Solar Pump Drive is a dedicated variable frequency drive designed to take power from a photovoltaic (PV) array (DC)
and operate a three phase electric pump. The in-built MPPT controller within the drive maximises the output of the pump (the flow)
depending on the power available from the PV array under the varying environmental conditions.
The drive can be used in a number of types of applications including:
Indirect pumping
o This is when the P2 Solar Pump Drive is used to pump water from a low level such as a well, up into a storage tank at high level
when there’s sufficient power available from the array. The benefit of this system is that the water can be released from the tank
by gravity during periods of low irradiance or even total darkness.
Direct pumping
o This is when the P2 Solar Pump Drive is used to pump water directly to the required destination. This method sometimes requires
the use of pressure control to prevent the over-pressurisation of the pipework when the demand for water flow is low. This can
also be done within the P2 Solar Pump drive by the connection of a pressure transducer.
The drive has been designed to require the very minimum configuration for the majority of applications, which minimises the set-up and
commissioning time for increased ease of use.
