This is the default setting for the Media Vault. When this option is
selected:

The Media Vault automatically acquires its IP address and other
settings from the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
server on your network.

The values of the IP Address, Gateway server, Subnet Mask, Domain
Extension, DNS servers, and WINS servers set by the DHCP server
are displayed.
Manually assign IP settings
If you use a static IP address, you may want to manually configure the
IP settings on the Media Vault. This should be done only by
experienced network administrators.

IP Address
A number that uniquely identifies devices, such as computers, on a
network.
•
Gateway
The IP address for the default gateway. This is the address of a local IP
router on the same network as this computer that is used to forward traffic
to destinations beyond the local network.

Subnet Mask
Identifies the portion of the network IP address that can be used for
subnetworks.
•
Domain Ext
A domain extension is an optional part of a network name used to
logically
divide a large network into smaller networks.
•
DNS Server 1
The primary server that associates network names with IP addresses.
•
DNS Server 2
The alternate or secondary server that associates network names with IP
addresses.
Note:
Entering two DNS servers is recommended for stability.
