122 Chapter 9 Blanket
ENWW
Recovering the blanket surface
Perform this procedure whenever a paper jam occurs. Immediately check for paper or ink
residues on the blanket. Residues can damage the blanket if not removed immediately,
while the blanket is still hot.
The following procedure depends on the time elapsed since the paper jam occurred to the
time the Print Cleaner
function is activated. If there is no delay and no impression paper
replacement is required, use the following procedure to clean the blanket:
1
On the control panel, click the
Maintenance
menu, and then select
Print Cleaner
.
The Print Cleaner wizard opens.
2
Select the
Jam Handling
check box.
Otherwise, manually clean the blanket before activating the Print Cleaner function. The
press displays a message when manual blanket cleaning is required.
Use the following procedure to recover the blanket surface:
1
Press an
Emergency Stop
button.
WARNING!
The blanket is very hot and may cause injury if handled carelessly. Access the blanket area with
care. Avoid imaging oil vapors.
2
Immediately remove any jammed paper from the machine. Use a blanket scraper if
needed.
3
If any paper remains on the blanket, remove it carefully while the blanket is still hot. If
this does not work, soak a folded lint-free wipe in clean imaging oil and apply it to the
paper edge. Remove the paper from the blanket in one piece if possible.
4
Use the following procedure to check the impression paper for dirt or crawling:
a
Release the
Emergency Stop
button.
b
Advance the press using the
Inching
button. Keep rotating the drums and inspect
the impression paper. Pay close attention to the leading edge of the impression
paper. Replace it if it is dirty, torn, or out of position. See ‘Replacing the
impression paper’ on page 190.
5
Lock the input conveyor in its place and close the ITM hood.
6
Click
Get Ready
.
7
On the
Maintenance
menu, select
Print Cleaner
.
The Print Cleaner wizard opens.
