Removing and Replacing Components
Replacing the Resident System Board with a Replacement System Board

CAUTION
Observe all ESD safety precautions before attempting this procedure. Failure to follow ESD
safety precautions can result in damage to the server. Failure to properly complete the steps in
this procedure will result in erratic server behavior or server failure. For assistance with this
procedure contact your local HP Authorized Service Provider.
Before replacing the resident system board with the replacement system board (A7136-69001), you must
locate the pull-out tag that is on the chassis of your server. This provides you with the system product
number, system serial number, and key certificate number that you need to set up the system board.

Replacing a System Board
You must perform the following procedure to ensure all components in the server are functional. To replace
the system board, follow these steps:
Step 1.
Remove the system board. (See “Removing the System Board” on page 214.)
Step 2.
Replace the system board with the replacement system board. (See “Replacing the System Board”
on page 217.)
Step 3.
Power the system on.
Step 4.
At the BCH prompt, enter the
SER
command. This puts you into the service menu.
Step 5.
At the service menu prompt, enter the
INIT
command.
NOTE
The
INIT
command only works on the repair board.
