Enabled host concepts
Enabled and standard hosts
Enabled and standard hosts
An
enabled host
is a computer in a SAN that is capable of performing I/O with connected storage arrays
and that has been con
fi
gured to interact with the replication manager server. Only enabled hosts are
displayed in the replication manager interface.
A
standard host
is a computer in a SAN that is capable of performing I/O with connected storage
arrays, but has not been con
fi
gured to interact with the replication manager server. Standard hosts are
not displayed in the replication manager interface.
Notes
•
In HP Replication Solutions Manager documentation,
enabled host
refers speci
fi
cally to a host that
has been con
fi
gured with a HP Replication Solutions Manager host agent.
•
A host can also be enabled with an HP StorageWorks Business Copy EVA/MA/EMA V2.x
host agent. Such host agents are part of Business Copy 2.x software and do not interact with
or appear in the replication manager interface. A host that is enabled with both host agents
appears in both interfaces.
Enabled host capabilities
When hosts are enabled, you can interact with them using the replication manager GUI, jobs, and CLUI.
For example, you can instruct an enabled host to dynamically mount a storage volume, or suspend and
resume application I/O when backing up virtual disks.
In addition, the replication manager can discover and interact with host volumes, volume groups and
logical volumes.
Host names and ports
HP recommends that you use the same host name in HP Command View EVA and the replication manager
to identify each host. This provides consistency in both interfaces when presenting a virtual disk to a host.
An enabled host’s storage system communication ports that are shared HP Command View EVA are listed
in the Enabled Hosts properties window, EVA Hosts tab. See
viewing enabled host properties.
Low-level refresh of enabled hosts
Update replication manager database entries by manually performing a discovery and refresh of
individual enabled hosts.
The action does the following:
•
Performs a discovery refresh of the enabled hosts to gather the host’s properties.
•
Updates the replication manager database with the new properties.
Security credentials for enabled hosts
To establish and manage replication manager host agent security credentials, administrators must use
the OS on each enabled host. See security
groups con
fi
guration
