4. Turn on the starter for not more than 10 seconds. Do not depress the
accelerator pedal! Warning lamps
18
and
27
should go out.
5. As soon as the engine starts, release the key and the clutch pedal. As
may be required, 2–3 attempts of engine starting are allowed with the interval
between them for not less than 1 minute, from “0” position of the ignition switch
each time.
On cold engine momentary knock of the hydraulic valve lifters is possible
and it will disappear as the engine warms up to the operating temperature.
After engine starting from cold, maintaining of the engine speed and its
warming up are carried out automatically as the fuel injection system ensures
preparation of fuel mixture corresponding to every temperature condition of
the engine.
Engine stopping
is carried out by turning the ignition key into position
“0”. If the engine has been operated in heavy duty cycle its instantaneous shut
down is not allowed. Let it run for 2–3 minutes at idle speed.
8.1.3. Starting and stopping of GAZ560, GAZ5601, 5602 engines
Prior to engine starting check coolant level in engine cooling system and
oil level in engine crankcase. When starting from cold, glow plugs bolting in
stalled in monoblock cylinders turn on automatically. Glow plugs bolting op
erating time depends on the engine temperature.
Engine cold starting
is carried out in the following sequence:
1. Turn on the storage batteries switch.
2. Move the gearshift lever into the neutral position and transfer case (for
4
×
4 type vehicles) gearshift lever in any gear position.
3. Depress the clutch pedal all the way down.
4. Turn engine starter key to position I (instrument cluster and engine con
trol system – ON). In doing so the electric fuelfeed pump turns on for 5–6
seconds and simultaneously red warning lamp in the oil pressure gauge and
warning lamp
2
(Fig. 4.14) of turning on glow plugs bolting will illuminate.
5. When warning lamp goes out, it means that the glow plugs are warmed
up, not less than in 3 seconds switch on the starter (for not more than 15 sec
onds) turning the key to nonfixed position II (instrument cluster and starter
are switched on).
6. Once the engine starts release the key, which will automatically return
to position I. Red warning lamp in the oil pressure gauge goes out.
7. Release the clutch pedal.
