Then start the engine in the following sequence:
— turn on the storage battery;
— set gearshift lever to neutral;
— turn engine control switch key to fixed position I;
— step on the clutch pedal as far as it will go;
— turn engine control switch to nonfixed position II (i. e. turn on the start
er) for not more than 15 seconds;
— once the engine picks up release the key and the clutch pedal.
Should the engine fail to fire, allow 1 minute before the second attempt. Af
ter three unsuccessful attempts check the fuel system and eliminate the trouble.
Engine stopping.
If the engine has been operated at heavy duty cycle its
instantaneous shutdown is not allowed. Let it run for 2–3 minutes at idle speed.
To stop the engine turn the engine control switch key to position 0.
8.1.4.2. Engine starting by means of thermostarter
To start the engine by means of thermostarter one should:
— prime the fuel system using manual fuel feed pump;
— set gearshift lever to neutral;
— turn on the storage battery;
— turn engine control switch key to fixed position I;
In so doing, if the temperature under hood is below plus (3±1)
o
C the con
trol unit automatically turns on glow plug preheating and the warning lamp
lights up. After 20–25 seconds glow plug preheating terminates and the warn
ing lamp goes out.
If the temperature under hood is above plus (3±1)
o
C, the warning lamp
lights up for 2 seconds only and the thermostarter remains inoperative.
— when the warning lamp goes out, turn the engine control switch key to
nonfixed position II (i. e. turn on the starter) and start the engine. When start
ing the engine the warning lamp turns on for the second time and remains in
such position for about 120 seconds: with this period of time the thermostart
er warms up the air entering the engine.
Should the engine fail to fire after the first attempt, allow 1 minute and
repeat the above procedure.
8.1.4.3. Engine starting by means of starting preheater
Preheating and engine starting should be carried out in the following se
quence:
— turn engine control switch key to position I;
