8. NEW VEHICLE RUNNINGIN AND ITS OPERATION
RUNNINGIN
Durability, efficiency and nofailure operation of the vehicle throughout
its life depend to a great extent on how fully and thoroughly you will follow
recommendations stated in this section.
No special runningin is required for the vehicle, however during the first
2000 km of run the following rules should be observed:
1. Get under way after warming up the engine at moderate crankshaft speed
and at engine steady running (with the choke opened for ZMZ4061,
ZMZ4063, ZMZ40522 engines).
2. Start driving off in the first gear only.
3. Avoid driving the vehicle in heavy road conditions (sand, mud, deep
snow and so on).
4. Watch the condition of all fastening joints of the vehicle. Loose nuts
should be timely tightened up. Particular emphasis should be placed upon se
curing of pitman arm, steering knuckle arms, tie and drag link joints, spring
Ubolts, wheels, silencer intake pipe flange and steering column location mech
anism.
5. Check fan and alternator belt tension
1)
because it stretches mostly dur
ing the runningin period.
6. Driving speed should not exceed: 20 km/h in first gear, 30 km/h in sec
ond gear, 50 km/h in third gear, 70 km/h in fourth gear and 90 km/h in fifth
gear.
Conduct maintenance operations opportunely during the runningin peri
od following Service Book instructions.
8.1. ENGINE STARTING
8.1.1. Starting and stopping of ZMZ4061, ZMZ4063 engines
Prior to engine starting check the levels of coolant in the cooling system
and oil in the engine crankcase.
Before starting the engine after the prolonged parking prime the carbure
tor using the manual fuel pump lever.
Engine starting from cold
should be carried out as follows:
1. Move the gearshift lever into the neutral position.
1)
Engine accessories driving belt tension is performed automatically on the vehicles with GAZ
560, GAZ5601, 5602 engines.
